DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday\, Feb. 9 as Southern Roots Realty presents Happy Hour with the Historian featuring Dr. J. Michael Butler and his insight on Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. in the Ancient City. \nDr. King saw St. Augustine as an opportunity to bring change in the Civil Rights movement. When Dr. King arrived in the Ancient City in 1964\, he was moved from house to house to maintain his safety. His strategy meetings with local civil rights leaders\, and speeches that stirred crowds\, were held in churches that still stand today. Dr. J. Michael Butler is a Kenan Distinguished Professor of History at Flagler College\, where he teaches a number of classes on the Civil Rights movement. \nDetails:\nMembers: $5 | Not-yet-members: $10\nCash bar provided.\nDoors open at 6pm. Please arrive at 6PM if you require a special seating arrangement. \n\nThere is also a “Special Edition” Happy Hour with the Historian on Feb. 22:\nBlack Baseball in Living Color: The Story of the Negro Leagues \nAuthor Jay Caldwell explores the history of the segregated Negro Leagues. Growing up just a few miles from Cooperstown\, NY\, Caldwell organized the recognition of the Negro Leagues Centennial Team in 2018 and is behind the Negro Leagues Centennial Exhibition. Caldwell commissioned artist Graig Kreindler to paint over 200 portraits of Negro League players\, 72 of which are on display at the St. Petersburg Museum of History.
