DESCRIPTION:The St. Petersburg Museum of History and Southern Roots Realty invites you on Thursday\, January 11th to Happy Hour with the Historian featuring Dr. Kevin Kokomoor and La Florida: Catholics\, Conquistadors\, and Other American Origin Stories. \nDr. Kokomoor’s discussion will uncover how Spanish influence\, not English drove America’s early history. His collection of stories  complicates and sometimes challenges how Americans view their past. His discussion\, and book\, dig deeper into Hispanic and Caribbean history\, and how Spanish colonialism in Florida sparked the British’s plans for colonization of the continent and influenced some of the most enduring traditions of the larger Southeast.  \nDr. Kokomoor is a fourth-generation Floridian who grew up in the Tampa Bay area. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s Degrees in History at the University of South Florida and his Doctorate in Early American History at Florida State University. Along with La Florida\, he has authored Of One Mind and of One Government: The Rise and Fall of the Creek Nation in the Early Republic and several articles in the Journal of Southern History\, Georgia Historical Quarterly\, Florida Historical Quarterly\, Journal of Sport History\, and Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era.  \nPresented by Southern Roots Realty\, Happy Hour with the Historian is frequently sold out\, so please purchase tickets in advance.
