DESCRIPTION:The St. Petersburg Museum of History and Southern Roots Realty invites you on Thursday\, March 14 to Happy Hour with the Historian  and the story of Sarah Williams Armistead. \nThe wife of city founder Gen. John C. Williams\, Sarah is credited with greasing the wheels of the deal between Williams and the Orange Belt Railway and would go on to co-sign the agreement to bring the railroad which would eventually lead to the creation of St. Petersburg. \nAfter John’s death in 1892\, the litigation surrounding his large estate\, Sarah was left with a large portion of land. She later married Capt. James Armistead\, a wealthy former St. Pete Mayor\, she managed both his and the Williams properties\, platted subdivisions\, and gifted land for public use.  \nWhen she died in 1917\, her estate was valued at $165\,000\, or nearly $ 3 million today.  \nPresented by Southern Roots Realty\, Happy Hour with the Historian is frequently sold out\, so please purchase tickets in advance. DESCRIPTION:The St. Petersburg Museum of History is partnering with the Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center on the St. Pete Pier to present the City’s first Historic Boat Tour! \nJoin us on March 16th\, for the 2-hour monthly tour that will highlight the city’s waterfront history and land alterations that have shaped St. Petersburg’s downtown shoreline and culture over time. \nDiscover the history of St. Petersburg from the water – the good\, the bad\, and the funny. Join us to find out how a cast of colorful characters turned a sleepy fishing village into a world-famous tourist destination\, and learn what happened to the Tampa Bay ecosystem as a result. It’s the perfect blend of history\, science\, and beautiful waterfront views. \nThe tour will depart from the Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center Eco-Tour dock across from the Museum of History in the City Marina at 10am and will travel along the waterfront from Snell Isle to Coquina Key. \nTickets are $40 for Museum Members and $45 for not-yet members. DESCRIPTION:Join Florida Humanities\, Tampa Bay Water\, and the St. Petersburg Museum of History for a film screening and discussion on the 2023 documentary Lightning in A Bottle. The film explores the “water wars” that plagued the Tampa Bay region in the 1990s\, and how local leaders came together to find a solution. A panel discussion will immediately follow the film. \nModerated by Dr. Christopher Meindl\, Director of the Florida Studies Program at the University of South Florida\, panelists Steve Seibert (former Pinellas County Commissioner)\, Ed Turanchik (former Hillsborough County Commissioner)\, and Council Member Lisset Hanewicz (City of St. Petersburg\, Vice Chairman of Tampa Bay Water) will discuss the past\, present\, and future of Tampa Bay’s water. \nThis program is organized by Florida Humanities\, with partial support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and Tampa Bay Water\, and the St. Petersburg Museum of History. \n  \n  \n \nRegister Now
