On May 16, 2017, the Tampa Bay Rays wrapped up a road series in Cleveland with an unforgettable burst of power. Over three games against the Cleveland Indians, in a series that concluded on May 17, the Rays hit a total of 13 home runs, setting a new franchise record for the most homers in a three-game span.
According to Major League Baseball reporting, the surge surpassed the previous club mark of nine, which had been reached twice in 2013. It was the kind of stretch that made baseball suddenly feel lighter, louder, and a whole lot more fun for Tampa Bay fans.
The final game of the series added to the fireworks. Corey Dickerson, Logan Morrison, and Jesus Sucre (pictured) each homered, continuing a barrage that had begun two nights earlier. Dickerson’s swing stayed hot throughout the month, Morrison was in the middle of a standout power season, and Sucre’s shot helped lock in the milestone.
As MLB noted at the time, the Rays’ sudden run of long balls became one of the standout storylines of their 2017 season, a reminder that even in the long grind of baseball, a few days of well-timed swings can rewrite the record book.
