Happy Hour with the Historian – Florida & Afro-Caribbean Peoples
May 14 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Florida and Afro-Caribbean peoples have shared historical ties dating back to Ponce de León’s arrival on Florida’s shores. This Happy Hour examines the history, unique characteristics, and settlement patterns of Afro-Caribbean peoples who settled in Florida from the Spanish colonization period to the present.
The discussion will cover some of the Spanish, English, and French-speaking Caribbean islands and the significant contributions those groups have made to Florida’s cultural, economic, political, social, and environmental development.
