Happy Hour with the Historian: Kendal Jackson – Weedon Island
The St. Petersburg Museum of History and Southern Roots Realty invites you to join us on Sept. 14 for Happy Hour with the Historian!
Dr. Kendal Jackson will discuss recent archaeological investigations at several of Tampa Bay’s inshore bayous, including Papy’s Bayou at Weedon Island.
Drawing on excavations at shell-mound sites, Dr. Jackson outlines a new history of environmental transformation extending back 30,000 years.
The new work reveals that shell-mound construction by ancestral Indigenous peoples substantially influenced the trajectory of inshore estuary development.
Kendal Jackson, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral researcher at the USF School of Geosciences. He works in both academic and applied settings, studying historical and ancient environments and how they have been altered and managed by past human societies.
