Florida Dreams amid the Storms!

Postcard showing historic VA Hospital

The Great Depression left a profound legacy in St. Petersburg. The Florida Boom – the eight-year party of wealth and excess – collapsed in 1926. The Great Depression followed in 1929. The Thirties represent a decade of unemployment and misery, but also the remarkable accomplishments of the New Deal. Construction projects like the Veteran’s Hospital at Bay Pines and St. Pete’s City Hall took shape, and remarkable artists and authors flocked to the Sunshine State.

Happy Hour with the Historian is presented by Southern Roots Realty.
